Celebrating a Legacy of 102 Years: Ghana Girl Guides Association’s Centenary Thanksgiving Event
We marked a historic milestone in our journey, celebrating an incredible 102 years since the inception of Ghana Girl Guides Association in 1921. As the final culmination of the centenary celebrations, a Centenary Thanksgiving Event was held on December 9th at the National Training Centre/Kusafiri World Centre in Achimota, Accra, Ghana. The event was graced by esteemed personalities, dedicated members, and friends of the association, who came together to commemorate this remarkable achievement. The Chief Commissioner, Mrs. Zakiya Abdul Wahab led the proceedings, expressing heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had contributed to the association’s success and growth over the years.
During her address, Mrs. Zakiya Abdul Wahab extended her sincere appreciation to all members, volunteers, and patrons for their unwavering support, dedication, and commitment to the values and mission of the Ghana Girl Guides Association. She highlighted the association’s journey, emphasizing the significant milestones achieved and the impactful projects initiated during the centenary celebrations. Among the notable projects initiated to mark the centenary were the establishment of a Skill Training Centre and an Educational Centre at the National Headquarters in Makola, Accra. These initiatives aim to empower young girls and equip them with essential skills and education for a brighter future, embodying the association’s commitment to female empowerment and education.
The centenary celebrations were a testament to the association’s resilience and evolution. The rebranding of the association’s logo, successful fundraising initiatives, and the induction of patrons and friends into the association added depth to the commemorative activities, fostering a stronger sense of unity and community. The international camps organized during the centenary celebrations provided a unique opportunity for members to connect with sister guides from around the world, embracing the true essence of guiding and fostering global connections and friendships.
A crucial moment during the event was the centenary climax event where the unveiling and wearing of the centenary cloth, symbolizing unity and the shared journey of guiding.
