National Adult Leaders Training at the Training Centre, Achimota, Accra

A one-day Adult Leader’s training for about fifty leaders of the leaders units in the MO. This training was tailored to build the capacity of the adult leaders and also to refresh their minds on facilitation skills to promote their guiding experience with their Guides.

Career Bridger Journey to financial freedom: facilitated by the YESS Girls 2023 team. This is a YESS activity pack program that seeks to bridge the gap of the aftermath effects of COVID-19. It equips people with the habits and lifestyles to adopt to empower themselves after the pandemic. The topic is to enlighten participants on the importance and how to attain financial independence and freedom. This activity is done by telling a story of a girl’s practice that helped her attain financial liberty. Participants in patrols discussed the practices of the girl in the story and highlighted the positive steps such as setting goals, saving money, planning etc. she considered in gaining her financial freedom.

The MO’s Media Presence: facilitated by Peter Asante Addo to keep the MO’s members updated and tech-inclined. Social media content was also displayed to indicate the activities the MO has been engaged in. He also browsed through the website to explain how the interface works and how members can navigate the website, read blogs, upcoming events, and membership registration.

Starting and Running a Girl Guide unit and the Eight Point Program: Facilitated by Sylvia Nicole Eshun to refresh and introduce a new learning journey for existing and new adult leaders. This is to equip members to be able to organize their units and train girls on activities based on the eight-point program (mind, character, out of door, handcraft, service to the community, relationship, physical fitness, and creative ability). The patrol system, patrol bookkeeping, and patrol attendance sheet were also discussed by the facilitator.

Community Guiding and Opportunities Available:  Facilitated by Florence Kwizera (YESS Girl) and Eli Katsekpor (Project Manager)

Introducing Girl Guiding to the community is a new initiative of GGGA to get girls in the community to become Girl Guides and benefit from life-changing opportunities. Participants were briefed on the community girl guiding experience from a yess participant from Burundi, who shared her journey as a leader of a unit and how the operation of community guiding works in her MO. Eli, the project manager also shared project opportunities that participants can use to introduce girl guiding to their communities. He discussed Menstrual hygiene management, Free Being Me, Stop the Violence, plastic tide turners, and social entrepreneurship among others as projects that leaders can tackle issues in the community and get girls to take action by being recruited as girl guides.

National Training Scheme for Girl Guides and Ananse Guides: National Trainer, Mrs. Stephanie Naa Ayariga discussed the national training scheme that is to help adult leaders/leaders of the unit to run girl-guiding activities with their members.  Participants were encouraged to get in touch with the trainer if they had difficulties or questions that could be addressed.

Hand Craft: Tye and Dye Facilitated by Patrick:

Hand Craft is a part of the 8-point program which is a pivotal part of the Ghana Girl Guides Association. Participants were engaged in the process of making tye and dye to promote their entrepreneurship skills and develop creative abilities.
