Surf Smart 2.0 Training Sessions with Ghana Girl Guides Association
Surf Smart 2.0 Generation Digital has been developed for worldwide use for girl–only or co–educational groups from the ages of 5 to 25 years. It provides a wide variety of activities that can be selected to respond to different contexts, learning needs and objectives.
The Ghana Girl Guides Association has organized an online training session on Surf Smart 2.0 for facilitators of various Junior High and Senior High Schools in Ghana. The two days training program commenced on Sunday, 1st October, 2023 and ended on 8th October, 2023 with five Surf Smart Sessions distributed evenly for days of the training.

The five Surf Smart Training Sessions are:
- Discover: To find and use the positive aspects of the internet,
- Connect: learn about how to use social media and other platforms in ways that connect us with others positively and safely,
- Protect: learn about how to navigate the web safely,
- Respect: Explore digital rights, learn about safe digital footprints and discover how to look at information critically,
- Imagine: Use the internet in a positive way to spark creativity and make it more enjoyable for others.
The online training which was facilitated by Mrs. Stephanie Naa Dei Ayariga (National Training Coordinator) and Peter Asante Addo (Communications Associate) recorded close to about one hundred participants from both Zoom and Google Meet and included facilitators from nine districts from the sixteen regions in Ghana; Tamale Metro, Fanteakwa South, Fanteakwa North District, Bosomtwe District, Asuogyaman District., Uwr, Jirapa, Asunafo South District.

In person training sessions were also organized for facilitators from various schools in the Central Region of Ghana to be able to impact their students. Participants showed much interest in the training program and promised to certainly teach their students when they get back to their various schools.

Surf Smart 2.0 Generation Digital
Surf Smart is an informal education program that helps young people connect online safely and positively.
This is a unique resource that will ensure generations of girls and young women have the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and others online.

Participants will discover how they can use the Internet as members of Generation Digital; not only to communicate, learn and have fun but also to speak up as responsible global citizens.
At the end of their journey, they’ll earn a Surf Smart 2.0 badge and learn:
- Discover tools that help you stay safe and make thoughtful, balanced decisions when connected.
- Learn how to make the most of your time online and build positive connections with local and global communities.
- Find ways to actively participate in the digital community and become a responsible digital citizen.
